Bloody Sunday

The Bloody Sunday massacre took place in Derry on 30 January 1972 when soldiers from the Parachute Regiment opened fire on a civil rights march. 13 people died on the day, and a 14th, John Johnston, died later as a result of his injuries.[1]

  • Corporal A - May have shot Damien Donaghey and injured John Johnston[6]
  • Private B - May have shot Damien Donaghey and injured John Johnston[7]

Anti-Tank Platoon

  • Lieutenant 119 - Commander of Anti Tank Platoon.[8].
  • Soldier 027 - Radio operator.
  • Corporal E - Inquiry could not eliminate the possibility that he shot one of William Nash, John Young or Michael McDaid. Probably shot Patrick O'Donnell.[9].
  • Lance Corporal F - Shot Michael Kelly. May have shot William McKinney. May have shot Joe Friel. Shot Bernard McGuigan and Patrick Doherty. Probably shot Patrick Campbell and Daniel McGowan.[10]
  • Lance Corporal J - May have shot one of William Nash, John Young or Michael McDaid. May have shot Alexander Nash.[11]
  • Private G - May have shot Michael Quinn. May have shot Joe Friel. May have shot Jim Wray. Shot Gerard McKinney and Gerald Donaghey.[12]
  • Private H - May have shot William McKinney. May have shot Michael Quinn. May have shot Jim Wray.[13]

Composite Platoon "Guinness Force"

Mortar Platoon

  • Lieutenant N - Commander of the Mortar Platoon of Support Company. Probably shot Michael Bridge.[18]
  • Sergeant O - Platoon Sergeant. Commanded vehicle which struck Alana Burke and Thomas Harkin.[19]
  • Corporal P - Shot at least one and possibly all of William Nash, John Young and Michael McDaid. May have shot Alexander Nash.[20]
  • Private Q - Probably shot Michael Bradley.[21]
  • Private R - Probably shot Jackie Duddy.[22]
  • Private S - Inquiry could not eliminate possibility he shot Patrick Brolly.[23]
  • Private T - Probably shot Patrick Brolly.[24]
  • Private U - Shot Hugh Gilmour.
  • Lance Corporal V - Probably shot Margaret Deery.[25]
