Sweden–Israel Friendship Association (Samfundet Sverige-Israel) is a Swedish organization that lobbies on Israel's behalf in Sweden.[1] It established its first local branch in Stockholm in 1953 with an appeal written by Hugo Valentin, a professor of history at Gothenburg University, in the Swedish parliament building on May 8. In 1954 local branches were also established in Gothenburg and Malmö. The nationwide association was established in 1978.
The association currently comprises 26 local branches with about 2,500 members. The current chairman of the association is Gunnar Hökmark, a MEP for the Moderate Party.
