Sweden-Israel Friendship Association

The Sweden–Israel Friendship Association (Samfundet Sverige-Israel) is a Swedish organization that lobbies on Israel's behalf in Sweden.[1] According to a Facebook page dedicated to it, it established its first local branch in Stockholm in 1953 with an appeal written by Hugo Valentin, a professor of history at Gothenburg University, in the Swedish parliament building on May 8. In 1954 local branches were also established in Gothenburg and Malmö. The nationwide association was established in 1978.[2]

The association currently comprises 26 local branches with about 3,000 members. The current chairman of the association is Gunnar Hökmark, a MEP for the Moderate Party.[2]
