Geoffrey Howlett

General Sir Geoffrey Howlett is a retired British Army officer.[1]


Howlett was commissioned into the Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regiment in 1950. He transferred to the Parachute Regiment in 1959.[2]

Howlett commanded 2nd Battalion, the Parachute Regiment from 1971 to 1973.[3] He was awarded the OBE for service in Northern Ireland during the period 1 August 1971 to 31 October 1971.[4]

Howlett served as an instructor at the Royal College of Defence Studies from 1973 to 1975.[5]

Howlett commanded 16 Parachute Brigade 1975-77. He served as Director of Army Recruiting 1977-79, GOC 1st Armoured Division (Lower Saxony, W Germany) 1979-82, Commandant RMA Sandhurst 1982-83, GOC South East Dist 1983-85; Commander-in-Chief Allied Forces Northern Europe (Oslo) 1986-89.[6]

He served as Colonel Commandant of the Parachute Regiment from 1983 until 2000.[7]
