Jonathan May is a former UK senior civil servant who now works as a special adviser on competition, consumer and regulatory issues for public affairs agency Finsbury International Policy & Regulatory Advisers International Ltd (FIPRA). [1]

May was until February 2011 an executive member of the Office of Fair Trade (OFT) board and acting executive director of policy and strategy.[2]

Background

May joined the OFT in 2001, and was the first director of the markets and policy initiatives division. He spent over two years as director of UK Competition Policy at the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform.

At the UK Department for Business, he developed strategy on competition policy. Before his secondment, he worked at the Treasury with public expenditure responsibility for Home Office and overseas aid policies.

Revolving door

  • Special Adviser, Finsbury International Policy & Regulatory Advisers International Ltd, March 2011. Approved by ACOBA "subject to the condition that, for 12 months from his last day of service, he should not become personally involved in lobbying UK Government Ministers or Crown servants, including Special Advisers, on behalf of his new employer or its clients".[3]
