May
- 10 - William Colby nominated as DCI by President Nixon.[2]
September
- 4 - William Colby becomes director of the Central Intelligence Agency
October
- 6 - Arab-Israeli War breaks out.[3]
- 11 - Admiral Elmo Zumwalt tells Henry Jackson that Israel will lose the war without immediate American resupply. Jackson meets President Nixon the same day.[4]
- 13 - Nixon orders immediate supply of arms to Israel.[5]
December
- 13 - House of Representatives passes Jackson-Vanik amendment.[6]
