Bill McCarthy works on nuclear safety issues at the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC).
Background
- Bill McCarthy graduated from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 1983 with a first class honours degree in Chemistry. From September 1983 to August 1994, he worked at the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) Aldermaston, where his duties included the analysis of radionuclides in a variety of environmental media and radiation detection studies.
- Currently in the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC), he has worked in the field of nuclear safeguards since August 1994. He has undertaken a wide variety of duties relevant to the international safeguards regimes of the European Commission (Euratom safeguards) and the IAEA, including oversight of international safeguards implementation at UK nuclear facilities.[1]
