BBC and NPR reports
In February 2007, both the BBC and NPR ran a news segment about a group calling for oil companies to guarantee the ethical origin of their oil so that it doesn't "support terrorists". The source for the segment was a website TerrorFreeOil.org (TFO). The BBC has been very careful about it sources, but on this occassion it is using a dubious source to report on this "campaign". In reality, the "campaign" is run by Joe Kaufman.
The TFO campaign and slogans actually mirror those found in a recent campaign seeking a boycott of conflict or blood diamonds. A Palestinian group has sought to include Israeli originated diamonds in this boycott, and there is similarity of the two campaigns. While it has not been possible to interest the BBC in the blood diamond campaign, it was readily willing to use a one-man blog campaign as the core of a news segment.
