Ruth Porter is special adviser to Elizabeth Truss the MP for South West Norfolk and Secretary of State for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. When Truss appointed Porter in 2014 it was seen to be a good move as Porter has a good 'grasp of handling the media' having had more than a decade of experience working in public policy with leading think tanks in the UK. For her role as special adviser to Mrs Truss, Porter is paid an annual salary of £60,000. [2]

Prior to this role, Porter worked as the communications director at the Institute of Economic Affairs. Porter currently works for Policy Exchange too as head of economics & social policy. [3] Alongside this, Porter is a regular commentator in the media, taking part in programmes such as Radio 5's Paper Review and BBC 2's Newsnight. She is also an Advisor to Million Jobs, a campaign which focuses on helping more young people find work. [3]
