John Reid, Baron Reid of Cardowan, PC ( (born 08 May 1947, Lanarkshire) is a Labour peer and the former MP for Airdrie and Shotts. He entered the House of Lords on 22 July 2010. [1]
Background
Politics
Reid entered Parliament on 11 June 1987.
He was the Minister of Defence (1997-1998) and the Minister of Transport (1998-1999), as well as the Secretary of State for Scotland (1999-2001), Secretary of State for Northern Ireland (2001-2002), leader of the House of Commons (2003), Secretary of State for Health (2003-2005), Secretary of State for Defence (2005-2006), and Secretary of State for The Home Office (2006-2007).[2]
Current activities
G4S
In 2009, just months after Reid had been hired by G4S, they won a huge contract from Reid's former employers, the Ministry of Defence, worth tens of millions of pounds, to supply private security guards for around 200 Ministry of Defence and military sites across Britain. G4S denied Reid playing any part in them securing the contract.[3]
Affiliations

Approved by ACOBA subject to "normal three-month wait and, for 12 months after leaving office, he should not become personally involved in lobbying the Government".[5] Stepped down in June 2011, citing the need for fresh talent to take over[6]
