I'm trying to use the redirect function for David Bell. i tried the following:

1. REDIRECT David Bell (Permanent Secretary DCSF)
2. REDIRECT David Bell (Chairman, Financial Times Group)

Does this command have to appear on a completely blank page? and if so how do I get one?

1. I don't think I have referenced it correctly?!

• I have sorted this - but you will need to add the original sources

2. I practically lifted it straight from the Century of Spin book. If I am going to do that should I copy the text exact and use quotations? I some places I have added my own words and then then used those from the book. Is this wrong? Should I do it one way or the other - copy and paste with refs. or make it all my own words and ref?

• In general you should write in your own words and then use quotations where appropriate (ie from A Century of Spin). You also need to make sure you give the original source for each quote you use (ie from the footnotes in a Century of Spin)

to do this you would need to move the page David Bell to a new name: David Bell (Financial Times) and t5hen create the other new page: David Bell (civil servant). then go back to the orignal page and edit it so that it includes a link to both Davids.

referencing

Hi,

Good work. In referring to websites you need to say who website. eg 'The website states' needs 'The Webdsite of the department for Children, Schools and Families states' and then the ref needs to be to the DCSF as the author and not the Childrens Plan. Make sure that each new page includes a ref at the to to which governnment department/s the relevant body is part of ...

another thing

When describing official actions, plans and intentions make sure you attribute them.

eg don't say as you do on the DCSF page 'With the aim of improving the health of children,' but instead: 'With the declared/stated/claimed/alleged (or some synonym) aim of improving the health of children,' You don't know yet what the aim is and you should report that they claim this to be their aim. It may turn out that you think their wim is different...

Dates of sources

HI Kerri

Just a point on refs: could you include the date of the article in your ref (as well as the date you accessed the article), thus: <ref>Joe Smith, "[http://blahblah.org Blah is blah]", The Times, 20 April 2005, accessed February 2009.</ref>

Can you go through your recent articles and put these in? This kind of info is important in helping people find our sources even if they have vanished from the web or the url has moved.

I have went through the points you both made, and tried to amend the pages I have created so far. Claire, you mentioned including the dates of articles when referencing. Does this include websites too? Where dates were written on websites I have now included them in the reference, however many websites didn't appear to have a date.

good work on the Children's plan. Why don't you post the full reponses to your FoI requests on the site? Either upload any word docs, pdfs or images or Ifg it is an email create a page using the title of the organisation/document as the root of the page title eg DCSF: Children's plan etc...

FOI uploads

Hi,

I uploaded 2 of the FOI responses I received...some questions...

1. I put a link to both documents on the 'investigative research' page, ok? and the FDF document on the FDF page, ok? 2. I'm not sure that the other documents I received would be useful to upload...

- consultation on the Food Standards Agency’s Nutrient Profiling Model (the consulation sent out to FDF and AA)
- a ltter from FSA inviting stakeholders to above consultation launch, sent to FDF and AA

sorry I didn't see yr message to me (pasted below for your ref) as it's on your talk page and not mine... I get an email alerting me if you leave a message on my talk page. It's a system that takes a while to get one's head around (bit like a secret society!!) and I am still finding my way on some things--hope you didn't feel like you were sending out a message into thin air because it's tempting to think that if you don't get a reply. To send a message to me you need to click on my name as it appears in the link at the end of my messages and that will take you to my talk page. then click on the plus sign next to the edit tab in the top menu and type away. Try it with this message just to leave me a 'test' message.

Re yr q on dates, I am sure you probably know this by now, but if there is a date of an article that you are referencing, put it in, and also put in the month you've accessed it, eg <ref>Joe Smith, "[http://blahblah.org/blah Blah is blah]", The Guardian, 20 April 2005, accessed February 2009.</ref>

If there is no date in the website you reference, then you will have something like this: <ref>"[http://blahblah.org/About_Us About Us]", Blah website, accessed February 2009</ref>

Hope that is clear. Anyway the reason I am visiting yr talk page this time is to leave a message asking you avoid referencing Lexis Nexis archive URLs for articles but instead to find a 'live' link, as hardly anyone has access to Lexis Nexis. I'm specifically thinking about the article on http://www.spinprofiles.org/index.php/Peta_Buscombe

refs 4, 5 and 6 are via Lexis Nexis. Might be worth a trawl thru any articles you've done using urls from Lexis and trying to find them on live links. If they are only available thru Lexis Nexis then just give the rest of the info for the ref, ie everything in the Joe Smith example above except the url. does that make sense?

thanks for yr message -- yes don't worry about the mismatched portal, it's a 'holding pattern' just to have some text in there until Lynn can get to it, then she will fill in the appropriate bits with her text.

Hi,

Your page on her does not state in the intro where she currently works? Is she Business4Life?

Can you say so and then raise questions about her role?

Check her register of interests.

I do not understand how she can be on the PCC and business for life and in the House of Lords. There does seem some conflict here especially since business 4 life is a lobby campaign etc.
