The Special Intelligence Wing was part of the Intelligence Corps and the parent of the FRU.
- In 1989, on the night before he arrested Nelson, Stevens found his offices in Belfast had been set on fire. The raid was carried out by the Controlled Methods of Entry Squad, a sister unit of the FRU based with the Special Intelligence Wing at Ashford. At the same time the army moved documents that incriminated Nelson from Belfast to England.[1]
