Kate Hollern has been the Labour Party Member of Parliament (MP) for Blackburn since May 2015. [1]
Following the retirement of previous Labour MP Jack Straw, who had held the seat since 1979, Hollern was appointed to stand as the parliamentary candidate for the 2015 general election. [2] She was elected in with a majority of 12,760. [1]
Hollern previously led the Labour group on the Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council serving as council leader from 2004–07 and again in 2010. [3]
As of November 2015, Hollern became a member of the Armed Forces Bill Select Committee.[4] She also now sits as a member on the Sub-Committee on Education, Skills and the Economy. [5]
