Halifax Plc was founded in 1853 as the Halifax Permanent Benefit Building and Invstment Society, demutualising in 1997 to form Halifax Plc [1].
In 2001 it merged with the Bank of Scotland to become HBOS Plc, one of the biggest banks in the UK that could challenge the big-four clearing banks.
