Wilf Stevenson (Lord Stevenson of Balmacara) (born April 19, 1947) is a former special adviser to the Labour Party who is now a Labour frontbench spokesperson for the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the higher education and trade matters in the House of Lords. He is also a whip for the Department for Business Innovation & Skills.

Stevenson joined the Lords as a life peer in July 2010, [1] and was given the title Lord Stevenson of Balmacara.

Before this, Stevenson spent two years as a special adviser to the Prime Minister Gordon Brown from 2009 to 2010, working mainly on constitutional issues in the policy unit to 10 Downing Street.

Stevenson was previously the director of the Smith Institute (an independent think tank) for 11 years. Before establishing the Smith Institute, Stevenson was director of the British Film Institute (1987-97), joining the BFI from what is now Edinburgh Napier University. [1]
