Gavin Williamson was controversially appointed UK defence secretary in November 2017 after Michael Fallon was forced to resign in the wake of sexual harassment allegations.
Williamson has been the Conservative Party MP for South Staffordshire since 2010.[1] In October 2013, he was appointed as the parliamentary private secretary to the Prime Minister.[2]
In the 2015 general election Williamson was re-elected with a majority of 20,371. [3]
From May 2015 until July 2016, Williamson was the parliamentary private secretary to the British prime minister David Cameron.[4]
