Norwegian national Bernt Reitan is a long serving director, consultant and executive with aluminium company Alcoa, serving as Executive Vice President from 2004 to 2010. He was a director of alloy and silica company Elkem from 1988 to 2000, who subsequently sold their aluminium subsidiary to Alcoa in 2009.[1] He is also a director of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd, Yara International ASA, International Primary Aluminium Institute and Renewable Energy Corporation ASA and is a former board member of the European Aluminium Association[2]

In 2009, while Reitan was Executive Vice President of Alcoa Elkem's subsidiary Elkem Aluminium was sold to Alcoa.[6] Bernt Reitan broke the ground at Alcoa's massive Alcoa Fjardaál smelter, their poster greenfield project, in the tiny fishing village of Reydarfjörður in 2004.
