Chief Paramedic and a twenty (20) year veteran of the Chicago Fire Department. He has participated in and managed more than 12,500 emergency responses. He has been a frequent lecturer on the tactics and political implications of Domestic and International terrorism, Crisis Management, Street Survival, Hazardous Materials, Chem/Bio Consequence Management, Media Relations, Management & Motivation Methods, Productivity, Mass Casualty/Disaster Management, Computers and Information Systems, Security Planning and Testing, Crisis Intervention & Critical Incident Stress, and several other specialized rescue and management topics.

Staten is a certified DoD Domestic Preparedness Instructor-Trainer and taught under contract at the U.S. Army Chemical school at Ft. McClellan, AL. Staten has been employed as a contract counter-terrorism instructor for the U.S. Army, the U.S. Air Force, NATO, and a number of law enforcement agencies. In 1998, Staten was appointed to be the Emergency Management Advisor and editorial board member at the International Association of Counter-Terrorism and Security Professionals (IACSP) and in October of 1999 received the IACSP 1999 Annual National Leadership Award. In March of 2000, Staten was also named to the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) Task Force on Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Terrorism (CBRN).[1]
