I-gnite is a British educational programme, set up after the May 2021 Gaza war, that prepares Jewish sixth-formers to discuss Israel and antisemitism before university. Organisers say the aim is to help pupils and parents in Jewish and non-Jewish secondary schools “find their voice around antisemitism” and to take “pride in their identity, regardless of their religious or political views.”[1][2]
It is not the US civic-leadership charity IGNITE (ignitenational.org) or the fitness brand iGnite.
People and funding
Declassified UK, citing the Jewish Chronicle, described Stuart Grant Roden as the lead funder and Dana Brass as co-chair. Brass was previously a director of Just Journalism, a group associated with the Henry Jackson Society.[3] No matching England-and-Wales charity number for “I-gnite” was located on the Charity Commission register at the time of writing; treat it as a programme unless a later filing appears.
Content
The project’s own site hosts “Big Questions” pages on apartheid, colonialism, genocide, occupation and proportionality. Declassified quoted those pages as stating that calling Israel an apartheid state is “offensive, false”; that “you cannot colonise the land your ancestors are from”; and that Hamas’s placement of weapons in schools, hospitals and mosques makes them a “legitimate military target” for the IDF. The same report said I-gnite hosted a webinar with Natasha Hausdorff of UK Lawyers for Israel.[3]
Events and partners
JW3 inaugural Pre-Uni Prep, 3 March 2024
The first public Pre-Uni Prep day was at JW3, London, on Sunday 3 March 2024. Jewish News and the JC said about 120 Year 12–13 pupils from 35 Jewish and non-Jewish London schools attended. Speakers included Robert Halfon (then Minister for Skills, Apprenticeships and Higher Education), Mark Gardner (Community Security Trust), and Gideon Falter (Campaign Against Antisemitism). Participants were offered a later public-speaking course with John Mann, Baron Mann, then the government adviser on antisemitism.[4][5]
Educator training, 2023
In October 2023 the JC reported that ten educators from seven Jewish secondary schools had received I-gnite training as the staff responsible for Israel and antisemitism education. The seven schools were not named.[1]
London and Manchester roadshows
By 2025–26 Pre-Uni Prep was in its third year. The JC said the 2026 tour went to schools in London and Manchester, also ran dinners in both cities, and offered an online version for gap-year students; it claimed more than 700 pupils at Jewish and non-Jewish schools. Named speakers on that circuit included Charlotte Korchak (Jerusalem Education Institute), Daniel Berke (solicitor associated with UK Lawyers for Israel), Jessie Kolvin (CST campus team / CST Student Helpline), Jonathan Sacerdoti, Karen Cinnamon (Your Jewish Life) and Dov Forman. Partner signposts listed were the CST student helpline, Union of Jewish Students and University Jewish Chaplaincy.[2][6]
