Rehman Chishti has been the UK Conservative Party MP for Gillingham and Rainham since 2010. [1] He retained his seat in the 2015 general election with a majority of 10,530. [2]

Since May 2015, Chishti has been the parliamentary private secretary to the attorney general Jeremy Wright.[3]

Controversy over Saudi think tank links

In March 2016, Chishti became an adviser to the King Faisal Centre for Research and Islamic Studies, a role for which he was paid £2000 a month. Questions were raised by the Liberal Democrats over a potential conflict of interest, given that Chishti had made statements in the Commons they claimed were 'advancing Saudi interests' after he had register the payment.[4]
