Leroy Schecter is the founder and current chairman and director of the Leroy Schecter Foundation (EIN: 30-0134495) (also known as the Schecter Family Foundation).

Background

Born in 1927, Schecter served in the US military during World War II. After the war Schecter began working in surplus metal sales, later diversifying his interests into trucking, building products and real estate.[1] The Leroy Schecter Foundation is a major donor to Friends of the Israel Defense Forces, the US body that sends funds to the Israeli Association for the Wellbeing of Israel's Soldiers. Between 2002-2013 the foundation donated $8,011,387 to the FIDF.[2]

Schecter's ex-wife Shoshana Candiotti Schecter is a businesswomen born and raised in Israel. After graduating from high school she served in the Israeli Defence Forces and the Israeli Intelligence Service. After her military service she migrated to Miami, Florida. [1]

Wealth

In 2002 Schecter's net worth was estimated at $156 million.[1] In August 2012 Forbes Magazine reported that Schecter was the own of two adjoining condos in Central Park, New York that were listed at $95 million.[4]
