De Beers has carried out diamond exploration in South Africa for many decades, using a variety of prospecting methods including soil and stream sampling, geophysics and remote sensing. The world-class Venetia mine, discovered in 1980 and brought into full production in 1992, ranks high among the successes of De Beers diamond exploration activities in South Africa. [1]
