Richard Scott (Lord Scott of Foscote) is a crossbench peer in the House of Lords, joining on the 17 July 2000.

Career

Scott was a distinguished lawyer and judge, he was called to the Queen's Council in 1975, appointed Lord Justice of Appeal in 1991, Vice-chancellor to the Supreme Court in 1994, Head of Civil Justice in 1995 and Lord of Appeal in Ordinary in 2000. He retired from the British courts in 2009.[1]

Interests

  • Judge of Civil and Commercial Court of Qatar.[1] When asked about this role by the Wall Street Journal, Scott said; "It is correct that my remuneration as a judge of the Qatar of the Civil and Commercial Court is from the state of Qatar. However this is no different from my remuneration from the British Government when I was a member of the Judicial Committee of the House of Lords."[2]
