Sir Jonathan Phillips was appointed political director of the Northern Ireland Office in 2002 and the permanent secretary in 2005.
After retiring from civil service he was appointed warden of Keble College, University of Oxford.

After twenty-five years working mainly in economic departments in Whitehall, Phillips was appointed political director of the Northern Ireland Office in 2002 and permanent secretary in 2005.[1]
In October 2010 he was appointed warden at Keble College, University of Oxford.
