John Prendergast

John Prendergast is American human rights activist and author, focused on bringing international attention to the possible genocide in Sudan and the atrocities of the Lord's Resistance Army in northern Uganda. An adviser to the White House and the State Department in the mid-1990s, and a former senior adviser at the International Crisis Group, in 2007 he co-founded the Enough Project, an initiative to end genocide and crimes against humanity.

Crisis Group role: John Prendergast is Senior Advisor to the International Crisis Group and one of the leaders of the ENOUGH Campaign. Previously John worked at the White House and State Department during the Clinton administration, where he was involved in a number of peace processes throughout Africa. John has also worked for members of Congress, the United Nations, human rights organizations, and think tanks. He has authored eight books on Africa, the latest of which he co-authored with actor/activist Don Cheadle, entitled "Not on Our Watch." John travels regularly to Africa's war zones on fact-finding missions, peace-making initiatives, and awareness-raising trips involving network news programs, celebrities, and politicians.

Darfur

Prendergast is best known for his high profile presentations on Darfur with celebrities, e.g., George Clooney and Angelina Jolie. Subsequently Clooney addressed the United Nations on Darfur.
