Dieter Loraine (born July 1959) is a strategic communications consultant and co-founder of Albany Associates International Limited. He previously served in the Royal Marines and held media-regulation roles in Bosnia and Herzegovina and with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in Iraq.[1][2]

Career

Loraine served in the Royal Marines and retired in 1995 as Assistant Director of Public Relations for the Royal Marines in the UK Ministry of Defence. He subsequently ran a public relations company in the UK called South-West (also referred to as P R South West).[1][3] He co-authored The Royal Marines Circuit Training: The All-Round Commando Fitness Programme (with Robin Eggar, 1996).[4]

From 1998 to 2001 he was Director of Broadcast Licensing and Director of Public Affairs at the Independent Media and Broadcasting Commission in Sarajevo. Between 2001 and 2003 he was Acting Deputy Director General and Director of Communications for the Communications Regulatory Agency (CRA) in Bosnia and Herzegovina. During this period he also served as Special Adviser to the UK Press Complaints Commission.[1][5]

Prior to forming Albany he was Senior Consultant for Media Regulation with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s Media Development and Regulation Advisory Team in Iraq.[1] He co-founded Albany Associates International Limited in 2004 with Simon Haselock and was appointed director and company secretary on 12 October 2004. He remains a director and is a person with significant control (ownership of shares more than 25% but not more than 50%).[2][6]

In 2012 he presented on “Internet Regulation: Examples from Around the World and Case Studies” at the 14th Central Asia Media Conference organised by the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media in Ashgabat.[7] A 2013 PR Week profile described him as managing director of Albany Associates and discussed his work in conflict environments.[8]
