Douglas Arthur Griffin (born December 1970) is a media and communications lawyer and a director of Albany Associates International Limited. He has worked on media law and regulatory issues in Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Sudan, Jordan and other transitional environments.[1][2]

Career

Griffin was appointed a director of Albany Associates International Limited on 1 October 2006. Companies House records his nationality as French and country of residence as France.[2] A curriculum vitae submitted with an Albany Associates proposal lists his nationality as American, education as a J.D. cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center (1997) and a B.S. in Business Administration with distinction from the University of Kansas (1993), and languages as native English, fluent French, and knowledge of Russian and Spanish.[3]

According to the company’s 2008 materials, he was the lawyer for the Media Development and Regulatory Advisory Team that Albany deployed in Iraq. In that role he “drafted codes and regulations applying to Iraqi media, drafted legal opinions designed to protect the media and public service broadcaster from government influence, drafted procedural rules for administering complaints against media, drafted media legislation for presentation to the Iraqi legislature, and advised the Iraqi interim and transitional governments on the role of independent regulators of media and telecommunications”.[1]

Before joining Albany he worked with Internews Europe in Paris (2002–2004), assisting media rights advocates in developing countries, and spent five years in private practice as an associate at the international law firm Latham & Watkins in New York and Moscow (1997–2002).[1][3] He has also advised on media law and policy issues in the United Arab Emirates and Sudan, and has advised Jordanian institutions on a media law curriculum and an annual media law and policy institute.[1]

The same CV states that he worked with a team of international experts on a regulatory and self-regulatory response to Russian propaganda in Ukraine, and that he has trained and advised government, civil society and media professionals in Russia, Ukraine, Central Asia, Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan and the former Yugoslavia.[3]

Other appointments

Griffin was a director of Albany Communication Trust Limited from 7 June 2007 until he resigned on 1 April 2010. In that filing his nationality was recorded as American and his correspondence address as 96 Rue de la Roquette, Paris, 75011, France.[4] He was appointed a director of 215 Uxbridge Road (Freehold UK) Limited on 22 February 2024 and resigned on 30 December 2025; Companies House recorded his nationality as French.[4]
