Stephen Johnson

- Mr. Johnson spent much of his career in the fibre and petrochemical industry. He held a position with AKZO-NOBEL for many years, where his concentrations included strategic planning and international operations. He entered the career consulting business in 1986 when he took the position of Senior Consultant with Coutts Consulting Group, Ltd. ("Coutts"). In 1987, Mr. Johnson was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Coutts, where his responsibilities included the management of operations and the development of the business. In 1987, Mr. Johnson became a Director of Coutts. Effective in 1996, he was appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors for Coutts. Mr. Johnson was employed by the Company from March 22, 2002 through September 2002, at which point he entered into a part-time consulting arrangement with the Company.[1]
- Educated at the University of Oxford and the Graduate School of Business at Columbia University, New York, he spent much of his early career in the petrochemical and fibre industry where his roles included strategic planning and international operations.
- He entered the career consulting business in 1986 and was appointed CEO of Coutts Consulting Group a year later after completing a leveraged buy out with venture capital support. In 1996 he was appointed Chairman of the Group, which was by that time quoted on the London Stock Exchange and was Europe’s largest career management company. In 2002 Coutts was sold to Right Management Inc, based in Philadelphia, for a sum in excess of $100m: Stephen served as a Board Member of Rights until it was sold to Manpower in 2004.
- He has served on the boards of quoted companies in Europe and the United States and continues to be actively involved in business as well as retaining a busy executive coaching practice. He recruited Rod Chamberlain, a former client both as a sponsoring employer and as an individual, into Coutts in 2000 to take over the top level consultancy practice.[2]
