Samuel Hoare

Sir Samuel John Gurney Hoare, 1st Viscount Templewood (1880-1959) was a Conservative politician who served as Home Secretary 1937-1939.[1]

As head of MI5's operations in Italy in 1917, Hoare authorised the recruitment of Benito Mussolini as an agent as part of efforts to maintain Italian support during the First World War.[2]
