Controversies and conflicts

  • Solev Co and Hatzlocho inquiries: The Charity Commission opened statutory inquiries into Solev Co Limited (13 December 2024) and Hatzlocho Limited (19 December 2024). They cover related-party transactions, conflicts of interest ("the trustees were, until recently, all part of the same family") and late accounts. The Commission stated that opening an inquiry "is not a finding of wrongdoing".[11] Companies House records him as a director of Solev Co (1986 to 28 February 2025) and of Hatzlocho (to 13 February 2025), so he was in post when both inquiries opened.
  • Tager v HMRC: In Tager & Anor v Revenue and Customs [2018] EWCA Civ 1727, an appeal over penalties for failing to comply with HMRC information notices, the court quoted a family letter that referred to ensuring "a minimum of £2 million will be gift aided out of profits to Solev and Hatzlocho". The court noted that he was a practising barrister.[12]
