Notes towards a chronology of the modern history of covert action with particular reference to the role of the Lovestoneite movement.

January

Feb

  • ICO, ILP participate in Paris conference which establishes new International Bureau for Revolutionary Socialist Unity. Revolutionary Socialist Congress. Afterwards Jay Lovestone invited to Vienna by Die Funke.[1]

March

  • German annexation of Austria. Lovestone travels to Vienna to rescue ICO leaders.[2]
  • 11 - Germans cross Austrian border.[3]
  • 12 - Lovestone sees Austrian Nazis marching in the streets.[4]
  • 15 - Nikolai Bukharin shot.[5]

  • 17 - Lovestone burgled by Communists.[10]
  • 25 - Burgled Lovestone material produced at UAW disciplinary.[11]

Aug

Sep

  • UAW forces Martin to reinstate the board.[12]
  • Lovestoneites still backing CIO.[13]

  • 16 - Workers Age advocating democratic socialism.[16][17]
  • 19 - Letter from Lovestoneites to KPO praises ILP leadership.[18]
