Phạm Nhật Vượng (born 1968) is a Vietnamese businessman. He chairs Vingroup, a conglomerate listed in Ho Chi Minh City, and has been chief executive of its electric-vehicle maker VinFast since January 2024.[1] He began in business in Ukraine in the 1990s, where he founded Technocom, the company behind the Mivina instant-noodle brand.[2][1] On 20 October 2026 the Forbes Real-Time Billionaires list ranked Pham Nhat Vuong 68th in the world, with an estimated net worth of US$32.72 billion; Forbes lists the source of wealth as Diversified.[3][4] In the annual World's Billionaires list published in 2026, Forbes had ranked Pham Nhat Vuong 93rd, at US$27.7 billion.[5]

Early life and Ukraine

VinFuture, his foundation, says he graduated from the Moscow Geological Prospecting Institute in 1993. VinFast's annual report describes the qualification as a bachelor's degree in geoeconomic engineering from the Russian State Geological Prospecting University.[2][1] He then opened a restaurant in Ukraine, his first business. He went on to found Technocom, which VinFuture calls the predecessor of Vingroup, and launched Mivina instant noodles.[2] Forbes says the noodle business was popular, and that he returned to Vietnam after it.[3]

Vingroup

According to VinFast's filing, he built Vingroup's core businesses, starting with the Vinpearl brand in 2001 and Vincom in 2002, and he chairs Vingroup's board.[1] Forbes describes Vingroup as one of Vietnam's largest conglomerates, with interests in property, retail and healthcare. Its main units include VinFast, the developer Vinhomes and the hotel chain Vinpearl. Forbes notes that Vinpearl listed on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange in May 2025, and that the charging operator V-Green was spun out of VinFast in 2024.[3] BBC News Tiếng Việt reported in 2025 that Vingroup had sued 68 individuals and organisations it accused of spreading false information on social media about the group, Vượng and other senior executives.[6]

Shareholding. In April 2026 BBC News Tiếng Việt reported that Vượng directly held nearly 390 million Vingroup (VIC) shares, or 10.05%. Counting indirect holdings and family members, it said he controlled about 65% of the company.[6] A bilingual disclosure filed by Vingroup on 25 September 2026 gave his direct holding as 703,848,781 shares, or 9.068% of charter capital. The same filing said Vietnam Investment Group (VIG), of which he is the controlling shareholder, held 2,520,265,316 shares (32.468%) before receiving a further 4,432,980 shares.[7] The disclosure is a scanned document, and these figures were read from its English text.

VinFast

VinFast listed on Nasdaq in 2023 through a merger with a special-purpose acquisition company (SPAC).[3] Its annual report for 2025, filed in April 2026, shows Vingroup holding 50.7% of the company, VIG 32.9% and Asian Star 14.3%. The report says each of these shareholders is majority-owned by Vượng. He is Asian Star's sole shareholder and VIG's majority shareholder, and he is deemed the beneficial owner of 2,288,636,023 shares, or 97.8%. He has been a director since March 2022, chaired the board from March 2022 to January 2024 and has been chief executive since January 2024. His son, Phạm Nhật Quân Anh, is also a director.[1]

The company depends heavily on his financial support. Under a capital funding agreement of 26 April 2023, VinFast received about VND60,000 billion. This included VND24,000 billion in grants from Vượng, directly or through companies he controls, alongside loans and grants from Vingroup.[1] BBC News Tiếng Việt reported that by November 2024 he and Vingroup had put US$17 billion into VinFast. Its accumulated losses reached almost VND171,600 billion by the end of 2025, and it became Vietnam's best-selling carmaker that year, delivering 175,099 electric cars for a 34% market share.[6] VinFast opened a plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, India, in August 2025 and an assembly plant in Subang, West Java, Indonesia, in December 2025. It is building a factory on about 733 hectares in Chatham County, North Carolina, with production expected to begin in 2028.[1]

Philanthropy

He and his wife, Phạm Thu Hương, founded the VinFuture Foundation and the VinFuture Prize in 2020 to recognise scientific and technological research with large practical impact.[2] The foundation's Vietnamese-language page says it was set up on 20 December 2020 with an initial commitment from the couple of ₫2,000 billion, about US$100 million.[8] Forbes also mentions non-profit ventures in healthcare, education and sport, a contemporary art centre and the PVF youth football academy.[3]

Personal life

His wife, Phạm Thu Hương, is a vice-chair of Vingroup. Her sister, Phạm Thúy Hằng, is also a vice-chair, and BBC News Tiếng Việt reported that both joined the Forbes billionaires list in March 2026.[6] Forbes quotes him as saying: "I don't care how much money I make. I want to build things that make life beautiful."[3]

Wealth

BBC News Tiếng Việt reported that Forbes first listed him as a billionaire in 2013, at US$1.5 billion.[6]
