Very little is known about this foundation. It lists its purposes and activities as 'broad purposes; general giving' and its trustees as Glenmede Trust Company. Congressman Wright Patman has complained about this foundation's defiance of his investigations of such philanthropies. He finally issued a subpoena when it refused to divulge any information. However, it is known that the Pews own Sun Oil Company, the sixtieth-largest industrial in the nation, and that there are 21 of them in the Philadelphia Social Register. It is also known that they have given multimillions to the Republican Party, were staunch Goldwater supporters in 1964, and own Pathfinder and the Farm Journal, two major agricultural publications, as well as trade magazines in other industries.
