Peter Berry

Berry is Vice Chairman of the Charities Aid Foundation and President of the Crown Agents Foundation. He is President of the Crown Agents Foundation, established in 1997 to succeed government as the owner of the Crown Agents for Overseas Governments and Administrations. He was CEO and subsequently Chairman of Crown Agents from 1988 to 2007, having from 1982 been Director for Asia, Pacific and Middle East.

Crown Agents fund Transparency International UK. Berry was a founder member of Transparency International's advisory council.

Early career

Berry's early career was in South East Asia with a large trading and plantation group and from 1973 to 1982 he was CEO of a UK plc with plantation and agricultural engineering interests in S. and S.E. Asia, E. Africa and Europe.

Formerly Berry was the manager of Kuala Belait Brunei, 1968, Indonesia 1970; Anglo Indonesian Corp., 1973; thomas Tapling Ltd 1987; Anglo-Eastern Plantations Plc, 1991; Rubber Growers Association, 1978-82; UK Task Force on Kuwait, 1991; UK Japan 2000 Group; Council: Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Association 1982-87; Indonesian Association, 1974-93, British Arabian Technical Co-operation Ltd, 1991; Four Millbank holdings Ltd; chairman of the Martin Currie Portfolio Investment Trust plc; non executive director of Henderson TR Pacific Investment Trust plc; He is an adviser to the government's trade development arm, Trade Partners UK, and a retained adviser on economic development to the Corporation of London.

Business interests

He is Chairman of one quoted investment trust, director of another and senior independent director of the construction company Kier Group plc. Its activities span building and civil engineering contracting, open-cast mining, facilities management, residential and commercial property development and PFI project investment. Major shareholders include: JP Morgan Chase & Co, Barclays Bank Plc, Legal & General and Lloyds TSB Group PLC.

He is a retained advisor to the City of London Corporation on international affairs, having similarly advised the UK DTI for many years. He is deputy Chairman of the Charities Aid Foundation. Berry is a director of Charity Bank. He is President of the UK chapter of Transparency International, a director of Bank and a governor of the pro GM Scottish Crop Research Institute. Berry has a home in Fife and a smallholding in Italy.[1]
