Mor Weizer has been chief executive of the gambling software company Playtech since May 2007.[1] In October 2025 Playtech's rival Evolution AB said that discovery in its New Jersey defamation case showed that a Playtech subsidiary had commissioned the private intelligence firm Black Cube to investigate it, and that Weizer had communicated with Black Cube about the work. Playtech said that it stood by the decision.[2][3]

Black Cube

According to Evolution's press release, Playtech hired Black Cube in December 2020 "to produce a defamatory report about Evolution, accusing it of regulatory violations", and "high-level Playtech executives, including but not limited to CEO Mor Weizer, communicated with Black Cube regarding the investigation and report". Evolution said that in 2021 Black Cube had secretly recorded conversations with at least five current or former Evolution employees and board members, using false personas.[2] The Financial Times, as summarised by Moneycontrol, reported that Playtech's brief was to find evidence of wrongdoing that could trigger legal or regulatory action against its rival.[5]

According to Evolution, the report was submitted to gambling regulators in New Jersey and Pennsylvania in November 2021 by the New Jersey law firm Calcagni & Kanefsky.[2] NEXT.io noted that two US state regulators, including New Jersey's Division of Gaming Enforcement, cleared Evolution of wrongdoing over its allegations.[3] When Evolution named Playtech on 21 October 2025, Playtech's shares fell by as much as 39 per cent.[4] A Playtech spokesperson called the suggestion of a smear campaign "wholly untrue". The spokesperson said the subsidiary, Playtech Software Limited, had commissioned "an independent business intelligence firm" to investigate "credible and repeated concerns" about Evolution's activities in prohibited and sanctioned markets, that the investigation was lawful, and that "Playtech stands by the decision to commission the report".[3] The statement did not address Weizer's own role. In June 2026 a New Jersey judge denied, without prejudice, Evolution's motion to add Playtech as a defendant.[6]
