Early life and education
Forbes and trend give his date of birth as 7 May 1992; the magazine News gives 1993.[1][2][5] trend reported that he grew up with his mother, Anita Gerhardter, and used her surname until shortly before his father's death. He completed his school-leaving examination (Matura) in 2011 at the Werkschulheim Felbertal, a private secondary school near Salzburg, and studied business administration at the Fachhochschule Salzburg.[2]
Business career
According to trend, in 2010, shortly after his 18th birthday, his father transferred half of Dietrich Mateschitz OG to him. From August 2017 to April 2022 he was managing director of Thalheimer Heilwasser GmbH, which also brews beer.[2] oe24 reported in January 2022 that he also headed Mark Mateschitz Beteiligungs GmbH, which holds 34% of the property company deaurea, and had joined the board of the Wings for Life foundation.[6] Until November 2022 he led Red Bull's "Organics" line.[2][1]
In a statement to staff on 3 November 2022, Mateschitz announced that a board of directors would run Red Bull, made up of Franz Watzlawick (CEO, beverages), Alexander Kirchmayr (CFO) and Oliver Mintzlaff (CEO, corporate projects and investments). He said he was stepping down as head of Organics because he did not believe in being both an employee and a shareholder of the same company.[5][2] News reported that his inheritance of the 49% stake was formally completed in April 2023, when he became the sole shareholder of Distribution & Marketing GmbH.[5] The majority of Red Bull belongs to the Thai Yoovidhya family.[7][1] Forbes notes that Red Bull sold 12.1 billion cans in 2023 and owns sports teams including Red Bull Racing in Formula One, the New York Red Bulls and EC Red Bull Salzburg.[1]

Forbes gives the source of his wealth as Red Bull and puts the company's 2023 sales at US$11.4 billion.[1] trend estimated his fortune at €32.5 billion in 2023 and described him as Austria's richest person.[2]
