Lester Sol Furst ( - 25 December 1958, age 66) was a prominent Glasgow Zionist.

Timeline

  • 1950 - Zionist Simcha - A truly Zionist and enjoyable function took place last Sunday in the Tudor Cinema, in which many leading Zionists participated. It was the occasion: of the Barmitzva celebration: of Cyril Furst, younger son: of Mr Lester S. Furst. It was presided over by Dr S. H. Bennett, M.D., who entertained the large gathering of guests with his eloquence and wit. A toast to the State of Israel was proposed by Mr M. H. Stone, M.P.S., and seconded by Dr Bennett, and after an appeal for Zionist funds being made by Mr Harry Furst, the sum of £20 was raised for Israel in the form of trees in the name of the Barmitzvah boy. The toast to the Furst family was proposed by Rabbi M. D. Dryan and Mr M. W. Bloom, which was suitably replied to by the brothers, H. and L. S. Furst. In addition to the Brachoth, Rev H. Fenigstein entertained the guests with apt and witty remarks. The Band and Vocalist rendered Jewish recitals. As the guests expressed their feelings of appreciation for the pleasant and most enjoyable evening, the Simcha closed with the singing of Hatikvah.[1]
  • 1958 - FURST - On Thursday December 25, suddenly, after a long illness patiently borne. Lester Furst pasted away. Beloved husband of Bessie (nee Freedman) and devoted father of Willie and Cyril and intended father-in-law of Jeanette. Deeply mourned and sadly missed. 59. Menock Road. Kings Park,Glasgow.[2]
  • 1963 - FURST.—On Wednesday. May 3. In hospital, after a long illness bravely borne. Bessie widow of the late Lester Furst. of 59 Menock Road. Glasgow. S.4. Sadly missed by her sons. William and Cyril, daughters-in-law. Jeanette and Ann, and by her grandchildren.[3]
