Karl Huts is a Belgian businessman, son and business partner of Ferdinand (Fernand) Huts, head of the family that owns the logistics group Katoen Natie. In July 2026 Intelligence Online reported that before Uruguay's 2024 presidential election he feared the country's business-friendly policies might change, and that the family hired the Israeli private intelligence firm Black Cube to gather information on the circle of the opposition candidate Yamandú Orsi.
Reported Black Cube engagement
Intelligence Online wrote that "as the election neared, Ferdinand Huts's son Karl, also his business partner, feared that the country's business-friendly policies might change, and not to their benefit". It reported that the family "enlisted" Black Cube "to gain information that could be leveraged about Orsi's inner circle and his political associates". A single source said the firm "sought to obtain evidence of illegal financing by Broad Front, including by recording conversations with party members". The article does not say that any recording was made, and no scandal emerged. Yamandú Orsi won the run-off.[1]
The family's Katoen Natie holds the concession for the main container terminal in Montevideo, extended in 2021 to 2081. The Broad Front had challenged the extension.[1] Black Cube cited client confidentiality and denied conducting political investigations in Uruguay. No response from Karl Huts or Katoen Natie is reported.[1] Full detail is on Black Cube in Uruguay.
