John P. Sears served as Ronald Reagan's campaign manager in the 1980 presidential election until he was fired after the February 1980 New Hampshire primary, because of criticism from conservatives that he was positioning Reagan to close to the centre.[1]

Along with Philip Baskin, Sears headed the law firm Baskin and Sears, which was paid $500,000 annually from 1981 to 1984 to lobby for Apartheid South Africa in the United States.[2]
