John Eldridge

Lieutenant General Sir William John Eldridge (2 March 1898 - 3 November 1985) was a founding Council Member of the Institute for Strategic Studies.[1] (Not to be confused with the British sociologist John E. T. Eldridge)

Career

  • served European War, France and Belgium, 1916–18 (wounded, despatches twice, DSO, MC)
  • Iraq Operations, 1919–20
  • War of 1939–45 (despatches, CBE, Bar to DSO)
  • Dir-Gen. of Artillery, Ministry of Supply, 1945–48
  • Commandant Royal Military College of Science, 1948–51
  • GOC Aldershot District, 1951–53
  • Controller of Munitions, Min. of Supply, 1953–57[2]
