Joel Gross (born May 1985) is a British businessman and company director based in north London, associated with the ultra-Orthodox (Haredi) Jewish community in Stamford Hill. He is best known for his directorship of the now-dissolved company that operated an unregistered illegal Jewish school in the area.

Early life and education

Gross was born in May 1985 in Islington. Mother's maiden name Weiss.[1] At the time of his appointment as a director in 2012, his occupation was listed as "student" in official records.[2]

Business career

Gross has held directorships in a small number of companies, primarily in property and estates sectors in recent years. His appointments include:

Talmud Torah Tashbar London Limited (company number 08146621, dissolved 26 January 2016) Director (appointed 17 July 2012). Registered address: 1a Rookwood Road, Stamford Hill, London, N16 6UD (his correspondence address). This private company limited by guarantee operated the unregistered Talmud Torah Tashbar school, an ultra-Orthodox Jewish boys' institution that was ordered to close by the Department for Education in late 2015 for failing to meet minimum standards, including the absence of secular education such as English language teaching.[3] EZJ Estates Ltd (16832116, active) Director (appointed in recent years, exact date per filings). Active property-related entity.[4] Gross Estates Ltd (15752742, active) Director. Gross Estates 2 Ltd (16622564, active) Director.

These later companies focus on estates and property management, with correspondence addresses in the Stamford Hill area. Unlike another individual named Joel Gross (born March 1981) who has held nearly 100 directorships in property firms, this Joel Gross (May 1985) has a limited portfolio of appointments, with only a handful of active companies as of 2026.[5]

Connection to Talmud Torah Tashbar

Gross served as one of three directors of Talmud Torah Tashbar London Limited, alongside Sajndel Gross (born February 1963, likely a family relation such as mother) and Yeshaye Schlesinger (born April 1950, teacher). The company ran Talmud Torah Tashbar, an unregistered Haredi school for boys that emphasized exclusive Torah study in Hebrew, excluding secular subjects. The school, which had operated illegally for decades, was refused registration by the Department for Education in December 2015 and ordered to cease operations by February 2016 due to concerns over curriculum, pupil welfare, and premises conditions. Reports suggested possible continued informal operations post-closure, though no direct involvement by Gross in any defiance is documented.

Personal life

Gross resides in the UK, with historical and current addresses linked to the Stamford Hill community (e.g., Rookwood Road area). Limited public information is available beyond company filings, consistent with privacy norms in his community.
