- In 2008 the Turks and Caicos Islands Tourist Board hired its first UK PR agency Riva Publicity to promote tourism and attract investment to the islands following a competitive pitch. The Mayfair-based agency's brief was to target the travel, fashion, trade, financial and property press. [1]
The registered lobbyist in the US for the Government of the Turks and Caicos Islands in 2009 was J Watson and co.[2]Jeffrey Watson is a US lobbyist and former aide to President Bill Clinton.[3]
It was reported in February 2009 that Watson had hired a jet to the islands' premier, Michael Misick. Misick and his deputy, Floyd Hall, were alleged to have helped parcel out prime strips of land on the Islands to developers keen to turn the overseas territory, some 600 miles off Florida, into a luxury tourist destination. Both men deny any wrongdoing.[4]
