Gloria De Piero

Gloria De Piero has been the Labour Party MP for Ashfield since 2010 [1] and is the current shadow minister for women and equalities.

In the 2015 general election, Piero successfully retained her seat with 41% of the vote. In this election she increased her majority from a mere 192 votes in 2010 to 8,820. [2]

Moving on from her post as minister for women and equalities, she now serves as minister for young people and voter registration following the 2015 reshuffle. [3]

Background

Piero began her career in journalism. Firstly as a researcher for Jonathan Dimbleby's television programme in 1997 and then for the BBC between 1998 to 2000. Following on from this, Piero went on to work for GMTV as their Political Editor. [4]

In 2010 Piero decided to enter politics when she was successfully elected to the Ashfield constituency. She was also appointed to a junior role in the shadow Department for Culture, Olympics, Media and Sport. [4]

Between October 2011 and October 2013, she served as a junior minister in the shadow department for the Home Office. [4]

Education

Piero graduated from the University of Westminster with a degree in Social Sciences. She also completed an MSc at the University of London. [4]
