- 1946 - U.P.A. NEWS By, Aryeh Leib, Hurry! Have you got your ticket yet ? If not, you had better hurry, the best seats are being booked up. Some ticket-sellers report that they are being told that there is plenty of time. As I have written before, there is nothing to gain by waiting — and there may be something to lose. I don’t suppose it is really necessary for me to mention that these remarks refer to tickets for the Kusevitsky Concert.
- Good Work - Hats off to Mr, Louis Woolfson who holds the record for having sold (up to the time of writing) 90 tickets. The runner-up is brother Hymie with about 70 to his credit. Those who complain that they have no time to sell tickets should remember that Hymie manages to act as co-Chairman of the U.P.A. Committee as well, A souvenir programme is being printed. 'This will prove an excellent advertising medium and any business house wishing to book space should communicate with the organising secretary, Mr. J. Freeman, 6 Dixon Street. The “Copy” requires to be in the hands of the printers within the next few days and there are very few spaces left.
- An Excellent Start - The Young Zionist Organisation has already settled down to practical Zionist work and has disposed of its quota of tickets—and asked for more.
- Give More - At a recent U.P.A. Committee meeting Collecting Cards were distributed to those who will be calling on the donors of last year’s big donations. It is gratifying (although not surprising) to note that most of the big donors of last year who have already subscribed this year have repeated the amounts donated. In some cases they have increased them. Those who are now being approached can be relied upon to follow suit. They are the Zionists of long standing who appreciate the present position without the necessity of "pep talk.” :"Morning Star” - Mrs. Mann, the tireless chairman of the Glasgow Women’s Zionist Organisation, tells me that the members of the W.Z.O. are pulling their full weight in the U.P.A. Campaign. ‘They are at the moment actively engaged in making all the necessary arrangements to make the “ Morning Star” show a financial success. Tickets are selling steadily. Most people who saw this remarkable show before, are anxious to see it again and if there are any who have not yet seen it, they should not miss this opportunity. Ida Schuster, who created a sensation in her part as the “Yiddishe Mammé” is coming through specially from Sunderland to play the part again. A souvenir programme which will bring in a substantial amount of money, has already been completed. The entire proceeds of the show will go to the funds of U.P.A. earmarked for relief and rehabilitation of women and children.
- Chanukah Ball - Another U.P.A. effort on the part of the W.Z.O. will be the Chanukdah Ball which will be held on Tuesday, December 17th, at the Marlborough. Already the requests for tickets are coming in. In fact, a number booked their tickets at last year’s function. A Remarkable Record I believe the “Women” have created a new record. The Executive sent out a U.P.A, Appeal and within a few days nearly 200 donations were received. Will husbands please note?[1]
- 1944 - Glasgow Executive Of The United Palestine Appeal In connection with the United Palestine Appeal, for which preparations are now being made in Glasgow, the following comprise the Executive: Hon. Presidents, Mrs. M. T. Mann, Rabbi Kopul Rosen, M.A., Mr. A. Goldberg and Sir Maurice Bloch, J.P.; Joint Chairmen, Messrs. Jack Karter and Fred Nettler, J.P.; Vice-Chairmen, Messrs. H. Furst, M. Glasser and A. Links; Hon. Treasurers, Messrs. Jack Hamson, J.P., and Joseph Sagman; Hon. Secretaries, Messrs. M. B. Links,. M.A., and Ed Woolfson; Publicity Conveners: Messrs. W. Golombok and L. Wolfson, M.P.S.; Organiser, Mr. Joe Levy; . Finance Committee, . Messrs. H. J. Coutts, E. Levitus and Joseph Woolfson, Jr.. In addition, approximately twenty Vice-Presidents have been appointed, comprising representatives of all Synagogues and others invited to act in this capacity as individuals.[2]
