Eduardo Saverin (born 1982) is a Brazilian-born investor based in Singapore. He co-founded Facebook, now Meta Platforms, and is co-founder and co-chief executive of the venture capital firm B Capital.[1][2] He gave up his United States citizenship in 2012, shortly before Facebook's stock market flotation.[3][1] On 20 October 2026 the Forbes Real-Time Billionaires list ranked Eduardo Saverin 54th in the world, with an estimated net worth of US$39.04 billion; Forbes lists the source of wealth as Facebook.[1][4] In the annual World's Billionaires list published in 2026, Forbes had ranked Eduardo Saverin 59th, at US$35.9 billion.[5]
Early life and education
Forbes records that Saverin was born in São Paulo, Brazil, on 19 March 1982, and holds Brazilian citizenship.[1] He has a BA from Harvard University.[2] According to Forbes, he played competitive chess from 1997 to 2001, and counts meteorology among his interests.[1]
Saverin co-founded Facebook in 2004 with his Harvard classmate Mark Zuckerberg.[1][6] B Capital describes him as Facebook's first investor as well as a co-founder.[2] Forbes says he still gets most of his wealth from a small but valuable stake in the company.[1]
Facebook's IPO filings include an agreement of 19 February 2010 with Digital Sky Technologies (DST). The agreement dealt with a standstill limit on DST's shareholding, which DST's planned purchase of Class B shares from Saverin under separate stock-transfer agreements (the "Saverin Agreement") would otherwise have exceeded.[7] On 17 May 2012, the eve of Facebook's listing, Saverin filed a Form 3 with the SEC as a ten per cent owner. He reported 53,133,360 Class B shares, convertible one-for-one into Class A shares.[8] Facebook's 2013 proxy statement listed him as an "other 5% stockholder" at 31 March 2013, with the same number of Class B shares. That was 7.9% of the Class B stock and 6.3% of the total voting power.[9]
B Capital and investments
Saverin co-founded B Capital and is its co-chief executive. The firm invests in technology, and B Capital says he is based in Singapore.[2] Forbes says he launched the fund with Raj Ganguly, a former executive at BCG and Bain Capital, and that it manages more than US$12 billion. Forbes also says it raised US$500 million for early-stage start-ups in July 2026.[1] Época Negócios gives 2015 as the year B Capital was founded.[6] Earlier Forbes profiles give 2016, while the 2026 profile gives 2015.[1] B Capital's website lists a regional office in Doha, Qatar, among others. It also carries a 2024 piece Saverin co-wrote on deep-technology investment in the Gulf Cooperation Council states.[2]
Citizenship and residence
The Internal Revenue Service publishes the names of people who give up US citizenship. Its list for the quarter ending 31 March 2012, published in the Federal Register on 30 April 2012, includes "SAVERIN, EDUARDO LUIZ".[3] Forbes says he renounced his US citizenship ahead of Facebook's 2012 IPO, and that he lives in Singapore.[1]
Wealth
Forbes gives Facebook as the source of his wealth.[1] In September 2026 Época Negócios reported that Forbes ranked him the richest person in Singapore for the fourth year in a row, at US$32.9 billion. That was down from US$43 billion the year before, partly because Meta shares fell about 25% over the period measured.[6]
