Dennis Skinner

Dennis Skinner has been the Labour Party MP for Bolsover since 1970. He was a Member of the Labour Party National Executive Committee in the periods 1979-92, 1994-98 and 1999-2010, and has served as Vice-Chair (1987-88) and Chair (1988-89) of the Labour Party.[1]

In the 2015 general election Skinner was re-elected once again, gaining a majority of 11,778. [2]

Stance on fracking

‬ Skinner's constituency includes six oil and gas licence blocks, all awarded to INEOS by the Oil and Gas Authority under the 14th licensing round in 2015. There are plans for four shale wells, three hrz frac wells and 2D and 3D seismic surveying; no applications are currently underway. [3]

Voting record

Skinner has a generally voted in favour of increasing regulations on fracking. [4]

  • 26 January 2015: voted in favour of making fracking companies apply for an environmental permit before conducting exploratory drilling. He also voted in favour for an amendment to the Infrastructure Bill to include an 18 month moratorium on fracking.
  • 11 February 2015: voted against requiring more pre-conditions for where fracking can take place.
  • 16 December 2015: voted against weakening regulations on fracking in protected areas and national parks.
