Defence HUMINT Unit is the title used on Powerbase for the Ministry of Defence's defence human-intelligence organisation. A GOV.UK page published on 12 December 2012 (withdrawn on 16 September 2014) described a Defence HUMINT Organisation (DHO) based at Feltham, Middlesex, as a tri-service MOD organisation within the Joint Forces Intelligence Group. That page said its mission was "to deliver human intelligence and information, services and force elements in order to support the achievement of defence objectives", that it managed "strategic aspects of defence human intelligence" under the command of a Colonel, and that it consisted of 350 staff drawn from across the three services.[1]
The Military Intelligence Services page on GOV.UK defines human intelligence as "intelligence derived from information collected by human operators and primarily provided by human sources", encompassing "debriefing, source handling, tactical questioning, interrogation, military intelligence liaison, and covert passive surveillance", but does not name a current unit title.[2] No later official source found in this draft confirms whether the DHO was renamed the Defence HUMINT Unit or otherwise reorganised.
