The Defence Counter-Intelligence Unit (DCIU) is a counter-intelligence organisation within the Ministry of Defence of the United Kingdom, established on 12 December 2025.[1]
It was launched alongside the Military Intelligence Services (MIS) at RAF Wyton in Cambridgeshire by Minister for the Armed Forces Al Carns MP and Minister for Veterans and People Louise Sandher-Jones MP.[1]
The DCIU unifies counter-intelligence professionals from across Defence, providing them with the tools and structure needed to disrupt and deter hostile activity more effectively.[1] It focuses on protecting the UK’s most sensitive defence capabilities, including nuclear deterrent sites, high-tech industrial projects and critical infrastructure.[2]
The creation of the unit followed an alleged more than 50 per cent rise in hostile intelligence activity against the Ministry of Defence over the previous year.[1]
