Bill Bowring

Prof Bill Bowring is a Barrister and Professor of Law, Birkbeck, University of London and founder and first Director of the Human Rights & Social Justice Institute. He is now chair of the European Human Rights Advocacy Centre (EHRAC). He acts as an expert on a regular basis for the Council of Europe and other international organisations on issues concerning human rights, minority rights, and rights to education.[1] He has many publications in English and in Russian on problems of law reform and human rights, as well as international law.[2]

Bowring is also an Executive Committee member of the Bar Human Rights Committee of England and Wales, a member of the Council of LIBERTY (the National Council for Civil Liberties), a trustee of REDRESS (reparation and compensation for victims of torture) and a member of the Rule of Law Council of the International Helsinki Federation.[3]

In 2004 Bowring wrote a legal opinion advocating the removal of the PMOI from terrorism lists and presented it to the International Conference of Jurists in Paris.[4]
