Alistair McAlpine, Lord McAlpine of West Green, is a former Conservative member of the House of Lords, and a director of the family-run construction firm, Sir Robert McAlpine and Sons Ltd. He was treasurer of the Conservative Party from 1975 to 1990 and its deputy chairman from 1979 to 1983.
In July 2010, McAlpine stepped down from the House of Lords, in order to avoid new rules which would have required him to become UK resident for tax purposes.
